A modest colonial-era garden house built around 1791, used by Tipu Sultan, the "Tiger of Mysore," as a retreat away from his main fortress. Its teakwood pillars are painted with intricate floral motifs in a distinctive Indo-Islamic style, blending Hindu and Islamic decorative traditions. The palace stands within the grounds of the older Bangalore Fort, built originally by Kempe Gowda and later strengthened by Hyder Ali. It is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India as a protected monument.
Did you know? Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace was built almost entirely of teakwood and famously combines Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, Tipu called it "the envy of heaven" in an inscription on its walls.
