Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Delhi
The cremation site and memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, marking the spot on the banks of the Yamuna where he was cremated on 31 January 1948, a day after his assassination. A simple black marble platform, inscribed with his last words "Hey Ram," marks the exact site, kept perpetually lit with an eternal flame. The surrounding park has since become the site of memorials to several other Indian leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. It remains one of Delhi's most solemn and frequently visited sites of national remembrance.
