Golconda Fort

Golconda, Hyderabad

Managed byArchaeological Survey of India (ASI)
CategoryUrban History, Heritage

A massive hilltop fortress that grew from a mud fort under the Kakatiyas into the granite citadel of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, once the seat of a kingdom famous for the diamonds that passed through its markets, including the Koh-i-Noor.

Did you know? Golconda's acoustic design lets a hand clap at the entrance gate be heard clearly at the highest pavilion nearly a kilometre away, a security feature built to warn the royal quarters of approaching visitors.
