Fort, Mumbai
A cluster of colonial-era civic and commercial buildings in South Mumbai's historic Fort district, once the walled heart of British Bombay before the fortifications were demolished in the 1860s. The precinct blends Gothic Revival institutional buildings with later Art Deco commercial structures built as the area modernised. It remains Mumbai's financial and legal district, home to the Bombay Stock Exchange and Bombay High Court. Much of the area is included within the city's UNESCO World Heritage-listed architectural ensemble.
