CategoryArt, Legal & Colonial History, Urban History

A large open maidan (park) in Mumbai's Fort district, flanked on one side by Victorian Gothic buildings including Bombay High Court and Mumbai University, and on the other by the Art Deco facades of Marine Drive-era apartment buildings, earning it recognition as the meeting point of the city's two UNESCO-listed architectural ensembles. It has long served as a public recreation ground, especially for amateur cricket matches on weekends. The Oval remains one of central Mumbai's few large open green spaces.

Did you know? Oval Maidan sits at the exact meeting point of Mumbai's Victorian Gothic and Art Deco architectural zones, one side of the park faces 19th-century Gothic buildings, the other faces 1930s Art Deco towers, all within view of a single cricket pitch.
