Udaipur

Udaipur was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty after the Mughals repeatedly threatened his ancestral capital of Chittorgarh, and he built his new seat on the shores of Lake Pichola for its natural defenses. Known as the City of Lakes, its skyline is dominated by the City Palace, an 11-palace complex built over four centuries by 22 generations of Mewar rulers. The Mewar dynasty traces its lineage back to the 8th century and produced Maharana Pratap, still revered across India for his resistance to Mughal Emperor Akbar.
